Disassembling the compression damping fitting

The steps are identical for both fork legs.
–
Disassemble the fork legs. ( p. 14)

Clamp the compression damping fitting in a bench vise using soft jaws.
–
Remove nut


–
Remove the spring.
–
Remove washer


Remove piston

.
–
Remove shim stack

.

Remove O-ring

and seal ring

from the compression damping fitting.
–
Extract the compression damping fitting.

Checking the fork legs
Condition
The fork legs are disassembled.

Check the inner tube and axle clamp for damage.
» If there is damage:
–
Replace the inner tube.

–
Measure the outside diameter at several points of the inner tube.
Outside diameter of the inner tube 47.975… 48.005 mm (1.88878…
1.88996 in)
» If the measured value is smaller than the specified value:
–
Replace the inner tube.
