Checking the cylinder head

Check the exhaust valve guides using special tool


Limit plug gauge (59029026006) ( p. 269)
» If the special tool is easy to insert in the valve guide:
–
Change the valve guide and valve.
–
Check the intake valve guides using the special tool.
Limit plug gauge (77029026000) ( p. 271)
» If the special tool is easy to insert in the valve guide:
–
Change the valve guide and valve.
–
Check the sealing area of the spark plug thread and the valve seats from damage
and cracking.
» If there is damage or cracking:
–
Change the cylinder head.

Using a straightedge and the special tool, check the sealing area of the cylinder for
distortion.

Rework the valve seat.

Blow out all oil holes with compressed air and check that they are clear.

Installing the valves

Position the valve spring seat. Mount the new valve stem seals.
–
Mount the valves corresponding to their installation position.
–
Mount the valve springs and valve spring retainers.

Pre-tension the valve springs using the special tool.
