FASTCNFG DEVICE Attributes for All FASTPTCP
Devices
TCP/IP-A =
primary-process-name
specifies the primary TCP/IP process to use in establishing a connection. If a
session is not established with this process, FASTPTCP retries establishing the
session using an alternate process if one is configured by TCP/IP-B. The TCP/IP-A
specification is optional. If omitted, $ZTC0 is assumed.
TCP/IP-B =
backup-process-name
specifies an alternate (backup) TCP/IP process name to use if connections are not
established with the TCP/IP-A process. The TCP/IP-B attribute is used for a limited
form of fault-tolerant operation. The backup is used on a session basis to establish
a connection with a printer. The TCP/IP-B specification is optional. If omitted,
FASTPTCP does not try to use an alternate process if TCP/IP-A fails.
TIMEOUT =
io-timeout
specifies the interval (in 10-millisecond units) that FASTPTCP waits for I/O
completions to a device. Adjusting the timeout interval can improve operations.
Some network installations do not respond within the default timeout interval; as a
result error 40 is reported against the device. A greater timeout value can eliminate
some of these errors. TIMEOUT can be up to 31 bits in size. Although the
TIMEOUT specification is optional, changed it if any problems occur. In the
absence of the TIMEOUT attribute, a default value is chosen on the basis of the
value of the PROTOCOL attribute as follows:
NONE
1000 (10 seconds)
TTAP 1000
(10
seconds)
HPJETDIRECT
3000 (30 seconds)
LPD1179
1000 (10 seconds)
LEXMARK
3000 (30 seconds)
MICROPLEX
3000 (30 seconds)
For AWAN server connections (
PROTOCOL=NONE)
, the TIMEOUT value specified
must be large enough to allow for normal printing and for temporary pauses due to
conditions such as out of paper. Typical values are 180000 (30 minutes) to 720000
(2 hours). Although the default value of 0 is compatible with earlier FASTPTCP
product versions, change this value if any problems occur. Extremely large values,
such as 12345678 (specified in older documentation) are not recommended. For
more information about setting the TIMEOUT attribute for terminal server
connections, see
TELNET Terminal Servers and End of Print Job Considerations
on page 3-5.
For PROTOCOL NONE, HPJETDIRECT, and MICROPLEX, the attribute
SHUTDOWNTO is recommended, with a value greater than or equal to, the value
of the TIMEOUT attribute.
