User-Mode Access Considerations for
FASTPSMB
User-mode access to an SMB LAN print queue provides encrypted password
protection for all user connections to the device. Password encryption is not currently
supported for FASTPSMB. However, there are two mechanisms that allow user-mode
access to be specified for an SMB LAN print queue that do not require encryption
support by FASTPSMB:
Specifying a guest ID. A guest ID does not have a password and can be used by a
FASTPSMB print process to access the print server. Considerations:
Password encryption is available for all user IDs.
All jobs that are spooled to the print server from FASTPSMB are accessible to
any user that can access this print server.
Turning off password encryption at the level of the print server. Considerations:
Password protection is available for all user IDs.
Password encryption is not available for any other user IDs.
Where to Find Information About NetBIOS and
SMB Error Messages
The NetBIOS and SMB error messages generated by HP products and other vendors
LAN components are standardized. For information about these messages, consult the
following manuals:
The
Multilan/TLAM Programming Manual
contains some documentation of
NetBIOS and SMB errors.
NetBIOS and SMB errors and are described in vendor documentation and in
textbooks available to the general public.
