Troubleshooting and Using the
Trace Facility
This section describes troubleshooting, problem reporting, and the trace facility for the
FASTP network print processes. As an aid to troubleshooting, the FASTP network print
processes generate EMS event (FASTPTCP only) and 512 text messages and include
a trace facility. When tracing is enabled, data sent to a printer, data received from a
printer, and certain other internal events such as Spooler supervisor messages are
logged to one or more shadow trace files.

Troubleshooting and Reporting Problems
To detect, correct, and report problems for the FASTP network print processes, you
should do the following:
1. Check the EMS $0 log.
The FASTP network print processes report error messages to $0. These
messages can provide valuable information to help you detect the cause of
problems and are documented in
Appendix B, EMS Messages
.
2. Reproduce the problem.
Try to reproduce the problem using the smallest possible print job.
3. Double check all parts of your configuration:
Spooler configuration values
Check the values you configured for the following Spoolcom commands:
DEV
LOC
FONT
FASTCNFG values
Check the values you configured for the following FASTCNFG entries:
HOSTS
DEV
