Creating the Master FASTCNFG File(s) for
FASTKCON
You can use a single FASTKCON file regardless of the number of devices. Using
FASTKCUT, any number of FASTCNFG files can easily and quickly be merged into
a single FASTKCON file.
Creating the Master FASTCNFG File(s) for FASTKCON
Note that no new editing program is needed to maintain FASTKCON because one or
more existing FASTCNFG files are used as the primary configuration base. These
FASTCNFG files can be created exactly as described in
Configuring a FASTCNFG File
on page 2-17 with the exception that they can include one additional keyword
DEFAULT.
After the FASTCNFG files are created or changed, the FASTKCUT utility program is
used to convert the FASTCNFG information to the FASTKCON file format as described
in
Converting Your FASTCNFG Files to a FASTKCON File
on page 3-49.
Using DEFAULT Keyword Entries
If you plan to convert your FASTCNFG file to a FASTKCON file, each FASTCNFG file
for FASTPTCP also can contain DEFAULT keyword entries. DEFAULT entries allow
common device attributes to be specified once in the FASTCNFG file instead of being
specified repeatedly for every device. DEFAULT entries are subject to the following
rules:
DEFAULT keyword entries are only used by the FASTKCUT utility to create or
update a FASTKCON file. They are ignored if the FASTCNFG file is read directly
by the FASTPTCP process.
Multiple DEFAULT entries can be used in a FASTCNFG file; each remains in effect
for all subsequent DEVICE definitions until another DEFAULT keyword is
encountered or the end-of-file is reached.
DEFAULT entries are not cumulative; each DEFAULT entry must specify all the
attributes to be used as default values.
If a DEVICE entry includes an attribute already defined in a previous DEFAULT
entry, the value in the DEVICE entry overrides the DEFAULT value.
The DEFAULT entry ends when any other FASTCNFG keyword is encountered
(such as DEVICE, SPOOLER, PROCESS, FASTCNFG, MACRO, HOSTS,
POLLTYPE, or another DEFAULT keyword). If no attribute definitions appear
before the next FASTCNFG keyword is encountered, no default values are in
effect.
Note.
Although multiple FASTKCON files can be used, generally only a single FASTKCON file
is used. A single FASTKCON file can be shared by any number of print processes running
under one or more Spoolers.
