Result 2. If the weight is stable, the problem is external. Check your
load cell manual troubleshooting section or contact the Hardy
Service Center for assistance.
NOTE:
When checking multiple load cells, disconnect all the load cell signal outputs from the
summing box and check them one at a time.
System Lock Ups
•
Shielding for EMI (Electro-Mechanical Interference) & RFI (Radio
Frequency Interference).
TROUBLE
PROBABLE CAUSE
REMEDY
System will not function,
erratic weight read outs,
memory corruption,
large fluctuation in sta-
tus readouts.
1. Load cell cable
shields are not
grounded at the
controller.
2. Load cell shields
are grounded at
the summing box
1. Use an ohm meter and
check to seed if the
shield is grounded only
at the controller.
2. Disconnect the shield
at the controller and
check for an open cir-
cuit toward the load-
cells.
1. Check to see that the
shield is not con-
nected to ground at the
summing box. (See
Chapter 2 for wiring
diagrams)
2. Load cell cable shields
only pass through the
summing boxes and
are not connected to
ground at that point.

1. Ground by-pass
straps are not
installed around
the load cells.
1. Attach flexible braided
cables from just above
to just below the load
cell.
2. This provides a path of
least resistance for
static & EMI/RFI noise
to ground.
