CHAPTER 5 - CALIBRATION
About Chapter 5
All information contained in Chapter 5 pertains to the Calibration of
the HI 2160RC
PLUS
Rate Controller. We recommend that the processes
and procedures contained in this section be followed to insure that the
Rate Controller is properly calibrated. The controller can be calibrated
one of two ways. C2 Calibration is a calibration using a reference point
and does not require calibrated test weights. Hard CAL requires the
scale to be calibrated utilizing both ZERO and SPAN, a two point cali-
bration using calibrated test weights. In addition a RATE calibration is
performed to calibrate the feeder to the material being fed. Other cali-
bration methods are not recommended. All calibration processes must
be completed before setting up the controller. The weight calibration
must be done before the rate calibration. All maintenance personnel
and users should be familiar with the calibration information before
operating the system.

Checking the Load
Cell Installation
Step 1. Check to determine if the load cells have been installed prop-
erly.
Step 2. Refer to your load cell O&M manual for proper installation
instructions.
Step 3. On some single and double ended shear beam load cells there
is an arrow that indicates the direction of the applied load. If
the arrow is pointing in the wrong direction, change the posi-
tion of the load cell so that it is mounted in the direction of the
applied load.
Check for Binding
on the Load Cell
CAUTION
BINDING ON A VESSEL OR LOAD CELL DOES NOT ALLOW THE LOAD
CELL FREE VERTICAL MOVEMENT AND MAY PREVENT THE INSTRU-
MENT FROM RETURNING TO THE ORIGINAL ZERO REFERENCE POINT.
•
A load cell must be mounted in such a way that 100% of the load
(Vessel w/Contents) is vertically passed through a load cell. (See
Fig. 5-1)
•
Check to see that nothing is binding the load cell. This means that
the platform scale or feeder is mounted so that 100% of the load is
vertically passed through a load cell. Check to see that nothing is
located underneath the load cell that blocks any vertical downward
movement.
