3.6.2 Optional Remote Display Wiring
The optional cartridge module (FC6A-HPH1) provides the ability to connect to communication cartridges for
additional communication ports on the control module. The lower port is designed for the RS485 serial
communication cartridge (FC6A-PC3) in order to provide an additional connection for a remote display.
The connection requires a single twisted-pair cable that is run from the port to the remote display (a duplicate
MCT touch screen interface). Since the MCT interface utilizes an RS232 port for connection to the control
module, an additional RS232/485 adapter is required at the remote display. This adapter can be plugged
directly into the serial port of the interface and provides a terminal block connection to attach the twisted-pair
cable. The RS485 link allows the remote display to mounted up to 200 meters (650 feet) away.
3.6.3 Optional Barcode Scanner Wiring
Future Design Controls recommends and supports the use of the Unitech MS-120-2 barcode scanner with an
RS232 interface and built in decoder. The barcode scanner also requires a separate 5Vdc power supply which
attaches to the decoder module (Unitech model 101000-0150 110V power adapter).
NOTE: Other barcode scanners with built-in decoders can be used with the MCT; however, due to the
numerous types and models available, Future Design Controls can only provide support on models
tested for use with the MCT.
Even if the barcode scanner is connected to the MCT, if its communication parameters are not set
properly, the scanner will not operate correctly. The barcode scanner must be configured for use with
the MCT or it will be unable to communicate. See section 9.9 Barcode Scanner for more information
on the proper settings and use of the barcode scanner.
