3.2.1
Combustion system
The combustion furnace is a resistor-heated horizontal furnace for combustion tem-
peratures up to 1500 °C. A combustion tube serves as reactor. The carrier and combus-
tion gas is supplied via an open gas sluice to the inside of the combustion tube. Be-
cause the gas flow of the carrier and combustion gas is greater than the intake flow of
the measuring gas, the resulting overpressure at the combustion tube inlet prevents
measuring gas from escaping or ambient entering the combustion tube.

The combustion tube for C/S determination is made of a special high temperature ce-
ramic material (HTC-High Temperature Ceramic). This is particularly robust, corrosion-
resistant and low in wear. Thanks to the HTC technology, samples can be digested
without catalysts at temperatures of up to 1500 °C. For especially difficult matrices, the
combustion temperature can be increased to 1800 °C with special aggregates (use of
the exothermic effect).
A quartz tube is used as combustion tube for Cl determination. This is a high chemical
inertia against HCl and prevents low results and memory effects during the analysis.
The maximum furnace temperature is 1000 °C when using the quartz tube.
The combustion system is equipped with a temperature controller that monitors the
heating of the furnace, maintains the temperature at the target value and prevents
overheating.
3.2.2
Hose system
The connection between the individual components of the basic device and to the
analysis modules is by way of a hose system. The layout of the hose system in the re-
spective module configurations can be found in the hose diagrams in section "Position-
ing the analyzer with various detector modules" p. 49ff.
