High results for TC
Cause
Solution
Combustion tube is cracked or broken.
Ambient air can enter the system through cracks leading
to significant high results for TC. In this case, replace
combustion tube.
Baseline drift
Cause
Solution
Detector not stable
During the warm-up phase of the device the detector
needs to stabilize. It is therefore possible for the base-
line to still drift a little at the start of the measurement
(temperature dependency). The peak surface
modified by the drift is automatically corrected and the
measuring results are always independent of it.
If the drift does not correct itself, inform Service.

Cl determination
NOTICE
To prevent faults always note:
Connect the measuring cell with stirring rod (filled with electrolyte) and electrode
before switching on the basic device and Cl module.
Only start the multiWin program approx. 3 min. after switching on the analyzer.
Recovery too low (split factor > 1.4)
Cause
Solution
Sulfuric acid too diluted
Check and replace the sulfuric acid.
Sooted components or measuring gas hoses.
Check the combustion tube for contamination.
Clean the combustion tube by burning off deposits with
a Bunsen burner or in the muffle furnace at 1000 °C. Re-
place heavily contaminated tubes.
Replace quartz wool in the combustion tube.
Check the sulfuric acid container for soot. If particles
have reached all the way to the sulfuric acid container,
clean the container and connection at the furnace outlet
and refill the container.
Recovery too high (split factor > 0.6)
Cause
Solution
Sample deposits in the combustion tube (e.g. salts)
Replace or clean the combustion tube, e.g. by "soaking"
the combustion tube overnight in 10% HNO
3
, followed
by thorough rinsing with distilled water
and drying.
Operating point below 1500
Cause
Solution
Combined electrode faulty or aged strongly
Use new electrode for chloride determination.
