Engine Removing/
Installing - CFR/M-Series
800/1000 - Crossfire 800
This engine sub-section has been organized to show a
progression for the removing/installing of the Arctic Cat
800/1000 cc (CFR/Crossfire/M-Series) engines. For con-
sistency purposes, this sub-section shows a complete and
thorough progression; however, for efficiency it may be
preferable to remove only those components needing to
be addressed. Also, some components may vary from
model to model. The technician should use discretion and
sound judgment.

NOTE: Critical torque specifications can be found in
Section 1 of this manual.

NOTE: Some illustrations and photographs used in
this section are used for clarity purposes only and
are not designed to depict actual conditions.
SPECIAL TOOLS
A number of special tools must be available to the techni-
cian when performing service procedures in this engine
section.

NOTE: Special tools are available from the Arctic
Cat Service Parts Department.
Removing

NOTE: Prior to starting the removing procedure,
disconnect the hood harness and the air intake con-
nector from the air silencer; then remove the cables
and pins securing the hood to the front end, remove
the hood, and remove the access panels.

NOTE: At this point if the technician’s objective is to
service Top-Side Components, the engine does not
have to be removed from the chassis. Proceed to Ser-
vicing Top-Side Components.
1. Remove the belt guard and disconnect the exhaust
temperature sensor; then remove the cable ties secur-
ing the sensor harness to the chassis.

NOTE: For assembling purposes, note the location
of the cable ties securing the harness to the chassis.
2. Remove all springs and the hairpin clip securing the
expansion chamber and resonator; then remove these
components from the engine compartment.
3. Remove the three cap screws securing the heat shield
to the chassis and oil reservoir. Account for the heat
shield pad from the cap screw (A).

4. Using Drive Clutch Bolt Tool, remove the cap screw
and high-collar washer securing the drive clutch to
the crankshaft.
5. Using the Drive Clutch Puller and an impact wrench
or a breaker bar and Drive Clutch Spanner Wrench,
tighten the puller. If the drive clutch will not release,
sharply strike the head of the puller. Repeat this step
until the clutch releases. Remove the drive clutch.
6. Remove the cap screw from the driven pulley and
slide the driven pulley off the gear case input shaft.
Account for alignment washers.

7. Using a small needle-nose pliers, remove the servo-
motor retaining clip and the cable holder.
