3. Remove the extension neck from the gas tank; then
holding on to the fuel pump inside the gas tank,
remove the fuel pump outlet fitting (A) and the mount-
ing nut (B) securing the fuel pump to the gas tank.
NOTE: It is advisable to have the gas tank empty
when doing this procedure.
4. Carefully remove the fuel pump and smart valves
from the gas tank and account for the two grommets
(C), sealing washer (D), and O-ring (E); then remove
and discard the hose clamp securing the gasline hose
to the inlet of the pump and remove the hose.
NOTE: If the smart valves are not being replaced,
inspect the valve screens for any tears or obstruc-
tions. Also check the hoses and replace if necessary.
INSTALLING
1. Install the gasline hose to the inlet of the fuel pump
and secure with a new hose clamp; then install new
grommets (C) on the mounting stud and the fuel out-
let of the fuel pump.
2. Carefully install the smart valves and fuel pump into
the gas tank; then while holding the pump in place,
install a new sealing washer (D), washer, and mount-
ing nut (B). Tighten to 24 ft-lb.
3. With a new O-ring (E) in the outlet fitting (A), secure
the fitting to the fuel pump and tighten to 70 in.-lb.
4. Connect the gasline hose to the outlet of the fuel
pump and tighten securely; then connect the fuel
pump harness.
5. Install the access panel with three torx-head cap
screws and tighten securely.

REMOVING
NOTE: Using a gasline hose equipped with a one-
way check valve, drain the gas from the gas tank.
1. Remove the gas tank (see Section 8).
2. Remove the six self-tapping screws (A) securing the
retaining plate; then remove the fuel pump and
account for the seal (B).
NOTE: Before removing the fuel pump, note the orien-
tation of the fuel pump outlet for assembling purposes.
3. Remove and discard the hose clamp securing the
gasline hose to the fuel pump inlet.
NOTE: If the smart valves are not being replaced,
inspect the valves screens for any tears or obstruc-
tions. Also check the gasline hoses and replace if
necessary.
INSTALLING
1. Install a new seal (B) on the fuel pump; then with a
new hose clamp, secure the gasline hose with the
smart valves to the inlet of the fuel pump.
2. Install the fuel pump and smart valves into the gas
tank and position the fuel pump so the outlet is prop-
erly orientated (as noted during removal).
3. Install the retaining plate and secure the plate to the
gas tank with the six self-tapping screws (A).
Tighten to 40 in.-lb.

PRELIMINARY CHECKS
1. Make sure adequate gasoline exists in the gas tank.
2. Make sure all hoses are clear and free of kinks and
obstructions.
3. Make sure the fuel filter is not plugged or damaged.
4. Make sure fuel and impulse hoses are in good condi-
tion.
5. Make sure evidence of good impulse exists at the
crankcase impulse fitting.
TESTING PRESSURE
1. Connect a pressure gauge between fuel pump and
carburetor using a piece of fuel hose and a T-fitting.
2. Place snowmobile on a safety stand and start the
engine. At the following engine speeds, the specified
pressures must be indicated.
3. Remove gauge and hose and connect fuel hose to
carburetor.
TESTING VACUUM
NOTE: Make sure adequate fuel is in the carburetor
for this test.
1. Connect a vacuum gauge directly to the fuel pump
inlet fitting.
CAUTION
Use care not to over tighten the retaining plate screws
or damage to the gas tank may result.
