The bolster truck centre of gravity is located higher than the centre of gravity
of platform trucks with sides. Therefore, a special care should be taken in the course
of movement. Break the articulated vehicle smoothly.
Mind that the articulated vehicle moves properly under difficult road condi-
tions when the tractor truck and the semi-trailer do not have a folding angle in a
horizontal plane or such an angle is quite small. If the folding angle increases, a
lateral force, which tends to overturn the tractor truck or generate its sidewise
skidding, begins acting.
Caution! when driving with the engaged auxiliary brake on a slippery road,
which has a low adhesion ratio, and with no solenoid valve of the braking sys-
tem available on trailers, folding and skidding of the trailer are possible.
MAINTENANCE
Maintenance is intended to keep the truck in good working order and in
proper external appearance; to reduce the intensity of parts wear; to prevent fail-
ures and damages, also to detect them and eliminate in due time. Maintenance is
a preventive measure that is carried out compulsory by scheduled order after de-
finitive runs or operation periods of the truck.
Keeping the schedule of the maintenance, also its proper execution to a
specified extent, will ensure a permanent inherent availability of the truck and re-
duce repair demand. For proper execution of the maintenance it is recommended to
do it at special spots, which are outfitted with necessary tools and fixtures.
Adjustment and maintenance of the engine fuel system instruments, of electric
equipment, hydraulic systems should be performed by qualified specialists.
Types of Maintenance
Depending on schedule and applied labour, the maintenance is subdivided
into the following types:
- Daily Maintenance (DM);
- Pre-Service Maintenance;
- First Maintenance (M-1);
- Second Maintenance (M-2);
- Seasonal Maintenance (SM).
Schedule of Maintenance
Daily Maintenance is to be carried out before the truck leaves and after it re-
turns.
Pre
-
Service Maintenance is to be carried out after first 1000 km of run (50
hours of engine operation).
Seasonal Maintenance is to be carried out twice yearly, in spring and in au-
tumn, together with the next scheduled maintenance.
The schedule of maintenances M-1 and M-2 may be corrected depending
on the truck operation conditions and climatic regions as per GOST Standard
21624-81 and the "Rules for Maintenance and Repair of Automotive Vehicles"
(Publishing House "Transport", Moscow, 1986). For the first category of opera-
tion conditions First Maintenance (M-1) is to be carried out every 4000 km of run
(125 hours of engine operation), Second Maintenance (M-2), every 16 000 km of
run (500 hours of engine operation).
