PECULIAR FEATURES OF OPERATION
PREPARATION OF NEW TRUCK FOR OPERATION
Before putting a new truck into operation, study this Operation Manual, carry
out the daily maintenance, and additionally proceed as follows:
1. Install accessories available in the box with driver’s tool kit in the truck ac-
cording to the Operation Manual.
2. Check and adjust tension of the drive belts, if required.
3. Check an oil level in the engine oil sump, the gearbox, the transfer box, the
axle housings, the hubs of the rear walking-beam suspension, the pump tank of
the steering booster, the steering gear housing and in the advanced fuel injection
coupling. Top up the oil, if required.
4. Check a coolant level and top it up.
5. After filling the fuel tank, prime the engine fuel feed system, using the
manual fuel feed pump.
6. Check a level and density of electrolyte in the storage batteries; add distilled
water and re-charge the batteries if required.
7. Open the wheel valves and bring the tire pressure up to rated value.
8. Check the door locks.
9. Check operation of window raisers in the cab doors.
10. Perform a test run.
ENGINE START AND STOP
Sequence of operations, when starting the engine, depends on its warm con-
dition and on ambient temperature. Electric engine starting system ensures its start
without preheating at an ambient temperature to –10 °C. At the temperature lower
than –10 °C make use of the starting preheater. If the storage batteries are under-
charged, and for the purpose of increasing the engine service life, it is recom-
mended by the Manufacturer to use the starting preheater also at the ambi-
ent temperature above –10 °C.
Engine start without preheating
The cold engine should be started at an ambient temperature from 0 °C down
to – 10 °C as follows:
1. Pump through the engine fuel system, using the manual fuel feed pump.
2. Set the gearshift lever of the gearbox in the neutral position.
3. Shut the radiator blind.
4. Switch on the storage batteries.
5. Set the engine stop lever in the working position (shift it up to the stop at
the panel).
6. Press the clutch pedal as far as it will go.
7. Press the fuel feed control pedal as far as it reaches the position that corre-
sponds to a medium engine speed.
8. Holding the pedal pressed, switch on the starter by turning the key in the
extreme right
-
hand position.
9. As the engine starts, switch off the starter by releasing the key of the starter
switch; hold the fuel feed control pedal in the position that corresponds to medium
engine speed until the engine runs steadily, then, smoothly release the clutch pedal
