Fig. 105. Canopy Folding Method:
I–VIII – folding steps
When the truck is in service,
regularly check bolt joints of the parts relating to
the cab, hood and fender assembly, platform body and their fastening to the chassis
frame. If cracks have been discovered in the parts, weld up and paint them. If it is
necessary to perform welding, remove old paint-and-varnish coating from surfaces of
the parts.
Before touch-up painting of the damaged spots (mechanical injuries, cracks,
chipping, rust, welding fly ash, splashes) it is required to scrape the old paint coating
with a fine or water
-
proof emery cloth.
Wipe the scraped surface with a piece of cloth moistened in gasoline or solvent,
dry and paint it by enamel with the help of a sprayer or a soft brush, using the same
colour of the enamel and applying two layers of the enamel with an interval of 5-10
min.
Regularly remove and dry the cab floor mat, because the wet mat looses its heat
-
insulating properties and promotes floor rusting.
FIFTH WHEEL
The fifth wheel with a lock hole in catches, diameter 50.8 mm, is mounted on
truck tractors. The fifth wheel is designed to articulate the truck tractor with a semi-
trailer that has a standard coupling pin.
The fifth wheel is fastened to the chassis frame with the help of brackets 13 (Fig.
106). The saddle is fixed to brackets 13 with the help of brackets 14. The saddle
brackets rest on saddle cushions 15 which are located in the saddle recesses.
