Common Control Shelf

General Description

The Coral FlexiCom 6000 system provides a Hot Standby Dual Control System which

offers a significant measure of system reliability and protection by assuring non-stop

operations despite the possible failure of any control component. The redundant Coral

FlexiCom 6000/R includes two complete sets of control hardware, each able to

perform the control operations of the entire system. Independently, the two sets

function interchangeably making it possible for either set to take over control

functions automatically in the event of malfunction to any portion of the control

system. Similarly, the readily available second control system facilitates maintenance

needs so that when periodic routine maintenance procedures are carried out, there is

no interference to the continuity of the system operations.

The Common Control portion of the Coral system provides the control mechanism for

establishing audio and data connections or calls via the PCM bus between Peripheral

I/O ports in the system.

Common Control is divided into five different functions:



Main Processor



Generic Feature Memory



Database Memory



Mirrored Memory and Switching Matrix



Peripheral Bus Interface or Group Controller

Each standard Coral Common Control card set includes an MCP-ATS Main Processor,

a 32GC card, and an SAU unit. Some Coral systems may also include dual CLA-ATS

card(s) and/or 4/8XMM expanded memory card(s) which are provided in separate

packaging and require installation in the control shelf.

The MCP-ATS card is the main control processor of the system. The 32GC card serves

as a communication link in the system, between the control cards and the PB-ATS

cards located in peripheral shelves. The 32GC card contains the clock circuitry to

synchronize the peripheral section of the system, digital tone generators (dial, busy,
