Synergy 1 and Synergy 100 Maintenance Guide (v16-S1)

Replacing a Synergy Frame Power Supply Fan

This section provides instructions for replacing a failed fan in the Synergy 1 frame. A fan failure 

may 

be indicated by the 

FRAME 

LED on the Synergy 1 control panel.

Synergy 1 Control Panel — Power Fail LEDs

If the 

FRAME 

LED is lit, it indicates that there is a fault with the Synergy 1 frame power supply or 

fan. If the fan has failed, the 

FAN FAIL

 LED on the Synergy 1 frame will be lit. 

Replacing a Synergy Frame Power Supply Fan

Use the following procedure to change a failed Synergy frame power supply: 

1. As a first step in troubleshooting, with power on, look at the power supply indicators on 

the front of the frame. If the 

FAN FAIL

 LED is lit, it indicates that the fan is drawing too 

much current, or has stopped turning.

2. Turn off the frame power switch and unplug the AC power cord from the AC outlet. 

3. To gain access to the power supply fan, you must first remove the power supply tray. 

Loosen the screws on the power supply lock down plate so that the plate slides up and 
down easily. Use the diagram on page 7-9 for reference.

4. Remove the power supply tray as follows:

•

While holding the lock down plate in the up position, grasp the handle of the power 
supply tray and remove it from the Synergy frame. 

•

Set it aside on a clean, flat, static-free surface. Note that the tray does not have a 
protective cover. 

5. If you have access to the top plate of the Synergy 1 frame, loosen and remove the 17 

screws. Set the top plate aside. This step will allow easier access to the power supply 
fan, which is attached to the motherboard, located behind the power supply. Use the 
diagram on page 8–13 for reference.

This procedure should be performed by qualified service personnel 
only. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not perform any servicing 
unless you are qualified to do so.
