Multiport Serial I/O

The VU-ACD/100 host computer requires the installation of a multi-channel serial port communications
card or cluster system.  DigiBoards provide RS-232 data communication between the peripherals and the
host microcomputer.  Perimeter Technology recommends and supports the following DigiBoard™
products:

•

PC/8e 8-port DigiBoard

•

Xem System with PORTS/8em and/or PORTS/16em Modules

•

C/X Cluster Controller System with C/CON-16 Concentrators

A VU-ACD/100 host may be equipped with multiple serial port cards and/or host

adapters. Multiple card types require multiple software drivers. Each card must also be

assigned a unique range of ports.

Xem and C/X Cluster Controller Systems employ host adapters interconnected to one or more modules or
concentrators.  Port capacity can be expanded with additional modules or concentrators.

Software drivers for DigiBoards are installed using Digi MenuPort Interface (MPI) software.  MPI allows
a user to selectively load several “families” of drivers.  Multiple driver families must be installed on
VU-ACD/100 hosts equipped with several types of DigiBoards.  MPI is initially installed via the
VU-ACD/100 Installation Program.

The VU-ACD/100 host must be rebooted for DigiBoard configuration
changes to become effective. ACD MIS operation will be halted until the
reboot has been completed.

version of MPI software currently supported on VU-ACD/100 hosts.

This subsection describes how to install new or updated DigiBoard drivers via the VU-ACD/100
Maintenance Menu.
