VU-ACD™/100 Maintenance Guide – Host/DOS Configuration Changes
5.5.3 Remove Device
Remove a peripheral device such as a remote terminal, printer, external display or modem involves more
than simply disconnecting the device and removing it from the Device Configuration screen.
VU-ACD/100 devices are integrated within the permissions structure. Users often create Report Groups
targeted to print to specific printers and fax modems.
!
Removing a device from a system may impact the printing of reports
already in queue or in the process of being printed or transmitted via
modem. Verify that the device to be removed is not currently active before
removing it from the system configuration.
?
VU-ACD/100 For Windows only sends reports to devices configured under
Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP. Deleting a device connected to the VU-ACD/100 host only
affects printouts of configuration parameters – alarms, etc.
The following guidelines apply when removing a peripheral device from a VU-ACD/100 system
configuration:
❏
To avoid disrupting print jobs queued or in progress, log in as Superuser and view the Print
Queue. Verify that no print job is queued to the device you intend to remove from the
configuration.
❏
Remove the device from the system configuration via the Device Configuration screen
(refer to the VU-ACD/100 System Administration Guide).
?
Removing a remote terminal printer or standalone printer causes all
report groups assigned to that printer to be re-assigned for output to the
system printer, even if the user does not have permission to send reports to
the system printer.
❏
Power down the device(s) and disconnect it from the DigiBoard port on the VU-ACD/100
host.
❏
Notify users that the device is no longer available in the configuration. Have them edit any
existing Report Groups scheduled to print to the removed device.
When a device is removed from the configuration using the above procedure, it is no longer available for
selection as an output device. The removed device will not appear in any selection set of print devices.
If the removed device was a modem, the dialing and retry parameters entered under the Dialed Destina-
tions screen are not automatically purged. The user may remove these parameters via the Dialed
Destinations screen.
