RS-232C Communication

The Sonic

®

1200S/HR serial interface is configured as Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). This

allows a direct connection between the instrument and Data Communication Equipment
(DCE) without the need for crossover connections. The default communication protocol is
shown in the following table:

The RS-232C serial interface will communicate with either a serial interface printer or an
externally connected computer. The 9-pin D-subminiature male connector is designed to
connect directly to an industry standard IBM-AT compatible serial port. Pinouts are listed
below:

Using a readily available 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapter cable, it will also connect to standard
IBM-PC serial connectors by using a 25-pin to 25-pin cable with female connectors on both
ends. Interface cables are also available from Olympus NDT Instruments.
