Sending and Receiving Individual Data Entries
The Infrared Communication function can be used to exchange individual data entries with other FOMA terminals.
●
The types of data that can be exchanged are as follows:
Phonebook entries that can be received
• Name, reading, phone number, e-mail address, postal code, street address, memo, birthday, still images and icon
information
• Received “Own number” data is stored as a phonebook entry.
Receiving single phonebook entries
• Received phonebook entries are stored under the lowest available memory numbers between “010” and “699”. If data is
already stored for all the numbers between “010” and “699”, the entries are stored in the lowest available memory
numbers between “000” and “009” (used for two-touch dialing) (P. 110).
• When phonebook entries are received, if there are already 700 stored names, phone numbers or e-mail addresses, or if
the number will exceed 700 when the data is received, a message appears saying that the data cannot be stored.
• Where a phonebook entry includes multiple stored phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses, all the data is exchanged.
• Phonebook data cannot be sent or received when “Keypad dial lock” is set.
• “Own number” data can be sent when “Restrict dialing” is set.
• Phonebook data cannot be received when “Restrict dialing” is set.
• Phonebook entries that were stored as Secret data in “Secret mode” (P. 148) or “Secret only mode” (P. 149) are
exchanged with the “Secret mode” or “Secret only mode” attribute removed.
• The phonebook secret code is not exchanged.
When infrared communication takes a long time
• The exchange of phonebook entries, because it can include the transfer of stored still images, may take some time. To
shorten the data transfer time, select “OFF” in the “Forwarding image” setting (P. 409) to prevent the transfer of still images
stored in the phonebook.
Sending individual data entries <Send Ir data>
Select “Send Ir data” from the function menu on the details screen or list screen of the data you want to send.

Note
●
Images and movies received using infrared communication are saved in the Inbox folder in My picture and i-motion respectively.
●
You can send and receive still images and movies whose titles have up to 9 full-pitch and 18half-pitch characters.
●
You can send and receive melodies whose titles have up to 25 full-pitch and 50 half-pitch characters.
●
If the file is too big to be stored, a warning message is displayed and sending (or receiving) may fail.
●
During infrared communication, the FOMA terminal status is effectively “out of area”, so if you receive a call, the call is rejected and the caller sees a
message saying, “Out of range or turned off”. If you have activated Voice Mail service or Call Forwarding service, the call is transferred to the Voice
Mail Center or forwarded to the forwarding number.
●
Depending on the file size, data transfer may take some time. In some cases, you may be unable to receive the file.
●
You may be unable to use infrared communication while the FOMA USB cable (optional) is connected to the FOMA terminal.
