Scanning Text
Using its built-in camera, the FOMA terminal can scan printed text and then add the scanned text data as a
Phonebook entry or bookmark, or use the data to compose mail. You can also use the data to make calls or display
Internet websites.
● The FOMA terminal can store up to 8 sets of scanned text data.
● Hold the FOMA terminal firmly to ensure that it does not shake during scanning. You can reduce shaking by holding the
bottom of the FOMA terminal with your hand or by placing the FOMA terminal on a magazine.

It may be difficult to read in a dark place. If so, please turn the light on and perform the reading.
● This function will also scan vertically written Japanese text.
■ About the Reading modes
The Reading modes are shown below. Select the mode that best suits the data to be scanned.
Note
<Internet> <Add bookmark>
● You cannot use the Web To function or add a bookmark if there are unusable characters in the URL.
<Compose message>
● The address cannot be entered if it includes characters that cannot be entered.
<Dialing>
● Numbers and symbols (#, ＊ , +, P, p) are the only characters that can be included in a phone number (“P” and “p” are the pause). If “-”, “(”, “)”, “,”, “.”
are included, a phone call is established by regarding only numbers and symbols as the phone number. The call cannot be made if any other
characters are included.
● The video phone image set by this function is effective only at current call.
● Phone calls cannot be made when “Keypad dial lock” or “Restrict dialing” is set.
<Save image>
● The titles and file names of saved images are as follows.
・ Title: imagexxx (“xxx” is a 3-digit number)
・ File Name: imagexxx (“xxx” is a 3-digit number)
<Save melody>
● File names of saved melodies are as follows.
・ File Name: melodyxxx (xxx is a 3 digits number)
● Melodies without titles are shown in the Melodies list under their file names.

Card read Use this mode to scan names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and memos printed on business cards and then
store the scanned data in the phonebook all at once.
Compose message Use this mode to scan the address, subject and message and then compose i-mode mail with the scanned data
used in the respective fields.
URL Use this mode to scan a URL and then connect to the scanned URL or add it to your list of bookmarks.
Mail address Use this mode to scan an e-mail address and then use the scanned e-mail address to compose i-mode mail.
Phone number Use this mode to scan a phone number and then call that number.
Free memo
Use this mode to scan English or Japanese text and store the scanned text as a text memo.
