6.2 BASIC MAINTENANCE
5/2020 CC1908S-1
6-5
[3] Stocking and storing oil and fuel
• Store oil and fuel indoors to prevent the ingress of
impurities such as moisture or dust.
• When storing oil and fuel in drums for a long time,
lay the drums horizontally with the drum openings
below the liquid level (to prevent moisture ingress).
Be sure to cover the drums with a waterproof sheet
if they must be stored outside.
• To prevent deterioration of oil and fuel from
long-term storage, use the first-in first-out system
for using oil and fuel.
[4] Grease handling
• Grease is designed to prevent joints from rattling
and making noise.
• Nipples that are not described in the Periodic
Maintenance chapter are used for overhaul and do
not need to be greased.
Grease the nipples if stiffness occurs after
long-term use.
• Thoroughly wipe away any old grease exuded
after greasing.
Grease should be wiped away with extra care in
places where adhesion of sand or dust is likely to
accelerate wear of rotating parts.
[5] Filter handling
• Filters are extremely important parts that keep
major equipment free from impurities in oil, fuel, and
air circuits, thus preventing associated failures.
Periodic replacement of filters is required in
accordance with the Operation Manual.
The replacement interval should be reduced to suit
harsh operating environments and the type of oil
and fuel (containing sulphur) used.
• Never wash and reuse cartridge-type filters.
• After replacing oil filters, check for the presence of
any metal powder.
If metal powder is found in a used filter, contact us
or our sales service agency.
• Do not remove replacement filters from their
package until immediately prior to use.
• Always use genuine Maeda filters.
[6] Cooling water handling
• River water contains a large amount of calcium
and impurities. Use of river water will result in
water scale build-up in the engine and radiator,
which will impair heat exchange performance and
lead to overheating.
Do not use water that is not suitable for drinking.
• If using antifreeze, follow the precautions
described in the Operation Manual.
• Antifreeze is flammable. Take great care when
handling in the vicinity of naked flames.
• The antifreeze mixture proportion will vary
depending on the outside air temperature.
For details on the mixture, refer to [1] Cooling water
replacement in "6.17.9 MAINTENANCE EVERY
2,000 HOURS" on P. 6-70.
• If overheating occurs, allow the engine to cool
before replenishing the cooling water.
• Shortage of cooling water may cause overheating
and corrosion of the radiator due to the presence
of air in the system.
[7] Electrical parts handling
• If electrical parts become wet or have damaged
covers, there is a risk of the machine
malfunctioning, which is extremely dangerous.
• Inspection and maintenance includes checking the
belt tension and belt damage. Depending on the
battery type, it also involves checking the battery
fluid level.
• Never remove or disassemble equipment
(electrical parts) attached to the machine.
• Do not attach electrical parts other than those
items provided as optional items.
• Protect electrical parts from water when the
machine is being washed or used in the rain.
• When using the machine in coastal areas, keep
electrical parts clean to prevent corrosion.
