WORKSITE PRECAUTIONS
SURVEYING AND ESTABLISHING A
WORKSITE
Worksites may contain many different risks of
serious personal injury. Check the following
points before starting work to ensure that no
dangers are present at the worksite:
•
Take care when working near thatched roofs,
dead leaves, or dry grass, as there is a risk of
fire.
•
Examine the ground and road surface
condition at the worksite to decide on the
optimum working method. Do not operate the
machine at sites where there is a risk of
landslide or rock fall.
•
Level all sloped surfaces at the worksite before
starting work.
•
When working on roadways, ensure the safety
of vehicles and pedestrians by assigning
marshallers and installing barriers to keep out
unauthorized personnel.
•
The worksite should be marked with "Keep
out" signs to keep out unauthorized personnel.
Failure to keep clear of moving machinery may
result in serious personal injury or death if a
person is hit or trapped by the machine.
•
When travelling in shallow streams or on soft
ground, check the water depth, water speed,
and ground condition and terrain in advance in
order to prevent problems while travelling or
operating the machine.
•
Ground close to cliffs, road shoulders, and
deep ditches is likely to be loose and should be
avoided when travelling and operating the
machine. There is a risk of the machine
toppling or falling if the ground gives way due
to the weight or vibration of the machine.
Particular caution is necessary after rain, use
of explosives, or earthquakes, as the ground
will be unstable.
•
There is a risk of the machine toppling or
falling on embankments or trenches if the
ground gives way due to the weight or vibration
of the machine. Take precautions to ensure
that the ground is safe before starting work.
ENSURING VISIBILITY
This machine is equipped with devices such as
mirrors and a camera to ensure visibility. Caution
is nevertheless required when operating the
machine, as there are some blind spots from the
operator's seat.
There is a risk of serious personal injury when
travelling or operating the machine in locations
with poor visibility, as the the operator may not
be able to spot hazards in the vicinity of the
machine or check the worksite conditions.
The following points must be strictly adhered to
when travelling and operating the machine in
locations with poor visibility:
•
Marshallers should be deployed as necessary
if adequate visibility cannot be guaranteed.
Only one signalling marshaller should be
appointed.
•
In dark locations, turn on the boom working
light and head light on the machine, and use
additional lighting equipment as required to
illuminate the worksite.
•
Stop work when visibility is reduced by fog,
snow, rain, or dust.
•
If the mirrors mounted on the machine are
dirty, wipe them clean and adjust the field of
view to ensure visibility.
•
If the camera is dirty, wipe clean the lens to
ensure a clear view of the surroundings.
CONFIRMING MARSHALLERS' SIGNALS
AND SIGNS
•
Install signs to identify soft road shoulders and
ground. Marshallers should also be deployed
as necessary if visibility is poor. Only one
signalling marshaller should be appointed.
The operator should pay attention to signs and
follow the marshaller's instructions.
•
All personnel involved must understand the
meaning of every signal, sign and sign board.
BEWARE OF OVERHEAD ELECTRICAL
CABLES
•
Do not let the machine come into contact with
overhead electrical cables.
There is a risk of electric shock from high-
voltage cables simply by being close to them.
•
Slinging operators are particularly at risk of
accidents involving electrical shock. Always
strictly adhere to the following points to prevent
accidents:
At worksites where there is a risk of the
boom or wire ropes coming into contact with
electrical cables, consult the electricity
company and check that the precautionary
measures (such as deploying guard
personnel, covering the cables with tubes,
and placing warning tags on them) stipulated
by the relevant regulations have been taken
before starting work.
