4.15 Procedural (P8000), Transport (P8005), Trauma (P8040), or
OB/GYN (P8050) Stretcher—Back Section Gas Spring
NOTE:
This procedure affects a Procedural (P8000) Stretcher
without
the BackSaver
Fowler® Feature or Auto Contour™ Feature.
Tools required:
Screwdriver
17 mm open end wrench
Retaining ring removal/inst
Pliers
allation tool
Removal
WARNING:
With little or no weight on it, the back section could rise quickly. Make
sure you fully control the lift of the back section. Failure to do so could
cause personal injury.
1.
Raise the back section to the 90° position.
2.
Remove the push nut (D) from the solid rivet (C) that attaches the release
handle to the gas spring (G) (see figure 4-21 on page 4-42) or (see figure 4
22 on page 4-42).

CAUTION:
Do not overextend the retaining rings. If the retaining rings are
overextended, use new ones for the installation. Failure to do so could
cause equipment damage.
3.
Remove the retaining rings (A) and (F) from the top and bottom headed
pins (B) and (E).
Do not remove the headed pins at this time.
4.
Lower the back section to the horizontal position, and remove the bottom
headed pin (E) from the gas spring (G).
5.
Raise the back section, and remove the top headed pin (B) from the gas
spring (G).
6.
Remove and discard the gas spring (G).
