c) Listen for the sound cycle of ABS electromagnetic valve. The self-inspection sound numbers of
electromagnetic valves are different and depending on the system configuration. For example, for
Model D 4S/4M basic version, there will be six sounds in the self-inspection of electromagnetic
valve while for Model E 4S/4M basic version, four sounds.
1-2-3-4-1 & 2-3 &4, six sounds in all
1- Right front wheel
2- Left rear wheel
3- Left front wheel
4- Right rear wheel
For Model E 4S/4M, the procedure is
a) Turn on the ignition switch
b) Wait till ABS indicator goes off
c) Listen for the sound cycle of ABS electromagnetic valve.
1-2-3-4, four sounds in all
1- Right front wheel
2- Left rear wheel
3- Left front wheel
4- Right rear wheel
5. Diagnosis methods of ABS system
WABCO has provided several possible diagnosis methods for the diagnosis of ABS system troubles,
such as diagnostic apparatus, PC diagnosis, portable diagnostic unit and flashing code diagnosis.
Diagnostic apparatus and PC diagnosis are better suitable for the off-line testing of the vehicle
manufacturers and for the trouble diagnosis of the powerful service stations, while the portable unit and
flashing code diagnosis are suitable for service stations and client’s self inspection of the system. They
are briefly introduced as follows.
5.1 Diagnostic apparatus
The functions of a diagnostic apparatus include
z Trouble memory
z Excitation of ABS, such as ABS indicator, electromagnetic valve and ASR valve, etc.
z Measurement of voltage and wheel speed
z Readout of ECU parameters
z ABS system diagnosis
z Use as a multimeter for measuring voltage, resistance, etc.
