Relay valve
The relay valve is used to make the compressed air not to flow through the brake valve but to directly enter the air
brake chamber via the relay valve so as to shorten the air supply route to reduce the brake hysteresis time. In the figure
below, the valve gate leans on both the valve seat and the core tube, and both the intake and exhaust valves are closed.

Relay valve (Accelerator valve)
In normal driving, the compressed air from the air reservoir enters the cavity A to close the intake valve 5 and
open the exhaust valve 6. The cavity D connected with the brake chamber leads to the atmosphere.
When the brake pedal is pressed, the compressed air from the upper chamber of the brake valve will come in via
the port B to make the piston 1 move downwards, opening the intake valve 2. The compressed air from the air reservoir
is fed to the air brake chamber via the cavity A, cavity C and cavity D. When a balance is reached, the intake and
exhaust valves will be closed simultaneously.
When the brake pedal is released, the air pressure at the port B will be reduced and will move the piston 1 upwards,
under the function of the air pressure in the cavity C. At this time, under the spring function, the exhaust valve 2 will
close the intake valve (or separate the cavity A and cavity C) while the compressed air from the air brake chamber will
be rapidly discharged from the core of the exhaust valve via the cavity D and cavity C.
Shuttle valve (two-way valve)
The shuttle valve is characterized by that it makes it possible to feed a control pressure to a duplex cavity brake
valve through both of its cavities, so that when one of the two brake lines of a car is damaged, the brake valve can still
receive the brake control signal.
In terms of structure, a shuttle valve is equivalent to a combination of two check valves. When the air is fed via the
control port P1, the valve core will cut off P2 to result in P1 being through to A; and when the air is fed via P2, the
valve core will cut off P1 to result in P2 being through to A. If there is a pressure signal at both P1 and P2, the valve
core may stop at the left or the right, depending on the coming sequence and the amount of the pressure. If the
pressures are different, the passage for the port with a higher pressure will be opened and that with a lower pressure
will be closed.
