Firmware Update

Embedded software of the Q-NRG device (also known as “firmware”) can be updated by the user using an USB
flash drive. Firmware update on the Q-NRG allows a user, with proper credentials, to upgrade or reinstall the device
firmware.

Prepare the USB flash drive device

The USB storage device used to update Q-NRG firmware must be prepared to be recognized by the update
procedure. On average, the firmware update file size is about 500MB; the only requirement is that such file fits on
the USB storage device used to update (be sure to have free space on the USB storage device).

Note

:

The USB storage device must be formatted as FAT32 file system (32 GB Max storage size)

1.  Check www.cosmed.com for firmware updates and send your upgrade request
2.  Download the upgrade file received from COSMED.
3.  Connect the USB flash drive device to the host PC.
4.  Extract the downloaded zip file content to the root directory of the USB flash drive device (e.g.: E:\, do not

select sub-folder).

Other files, besides the firmware update file, can be present in the file system. The firmware update procedure does
not write anything to the USB flash drive device, therefore every file is left unchanged.

Install Firmware

WARNING

:

The firmware upgrade process will erase all data stored on the Q-NRG device. Backup the database
to USB (see “To Export a Database to a USB flash drive”) or download all tests to your PC before
upgrading.

During the update procedure a progress bar is shown, and various messages are displayed, indicating the procedure
status.

1.  Make sure that the battery has at least 20% remaining capacity or that the device is connected to mains.
2.  Turn the device Off.
3.  Plug the USB flash drive device with the firmware into any USB port on the side of Q-NRG. Make sure there

is only one USB drive inserted.

4. Turn the device On. Q-NRG prompts a message to continue with Firmware upgrade, all data will be lost. Tap

Yes

to continue with the upgrade or

Cancel

to abort operation.

5. Wait for few minutes for upgrade to complete. Do not remove the USB flash drive during this process, the

Q-NRG will automatically reboot.

6. Remove the USB flash drive.

Note

:

In case of re-installation of an existing Firmware version, user has the option whether to maintain or
erase all data stored on the device.

Note:

Repeat all calibrations after firmware update
