Both End Measurement
Acquisition of the two traces
If you need to make an acquisition in both directions:
•
Make a measurement in one direction. The corresponding trace is displayed
in the Results page.
•
Successively press the <Expert>, <Overlay> and <2 Traces> keys to put this
trace into the overlay mode.
•
Make the second measurement in the other direction. The corresponding
trace is displayed as the active trace.
Note
The active trace (trace displayed as normal OTDR trace) serves as the
distance reference.
Note
To swap the traces so the trace in overlay mode becomes the active
trace, press the <Expert>, <Overlay> and <Swap> keys.
Accessing the Both End measurement mode
Successively press the <Expert>, <Overlay> and <Both End Overlay> keys. The
overlayed trace is inverted.
Attention
The <Both End Overlay> key is only present if two compatible traces
are displayed. It is not available if the traces are not compatible or if
there are more than two traces.
The two traces are aligned on the x axis, by taking into account the launch cables
declared "Launch Cables" on page 5-35. The markers corresponding to the same
event, on each trace, are therefore superimposed on the X-axis. A small gap can
separate these two markers linked to the same event (e.g. gap due to a slightly
different length of the fiber according to the measurement direction). You must
select in the OTDR TEST SET menu, on the line
Dist. Spacing Th
., the threshold
beyond which the markers will be considered as linked to different events.
Description of the active and non-active traces
•
The active trace is represented in green (dark grey with a monochrome
screen), the other trace is in blue (light grey with a monochrome screen).
•
The characteristics of the active trace are displayed in a status bar above the
trace.
•
The active trace is represented with its markers and measurement results.
•
On the non-active trace the markers are represented with a vertical dash.
