Getting Started
This chapter explains the operations to carry out to start using the MTS
e
:
❏
before switching on:
unpacking the instrument,
installation and removal of a module,
charging and installing batteries,
connecting an external power supply,
connecting the fiber,
positioning the unit,
connecting the handle or carrying strap.
❏
after switching on:
installing new software from a 3.5" floppy disk,
configuring the system (date, time, language, etc.).
❏
troubleshooting.
Before switching on
Unpacking the instrument
Remove the MTS
e
and its accessories from the packing case. Check the presence
of all the ordered accessories.
If any part is missing or damaged please contact your local representative (see
"Wavetek Customer Service Centers" at the end of the manual).
The MTS
e
is delivered with the following accessories:
•
a user manual.
•
a battery that must be charged before use.
•
a mains supply unit to power the instrument from the mains and to charge
the batteries.
•
a carrying strap.
•
soft carrying case (optional)
•
hard transit case (optional)
Installation and removal of module
It is very easy to remove or install a MTS
e
module. Whatever type of module, it
can be installed in either of the two slots available on the rear panel of the
instrument.
When a slot is empty it is covered with a blanking plate attached with two
locking screws similar to those of a module.
