Power meter Specific Functions
3.
Press the
RESULTS
direct access key to display the OTS Results window.
4.
From the OTS Results window press the <Power meter> softkey to access the
power meter functions of the OTS.
5.
Use the <Wavelength> key to select the AUTOLAMBDA mode.
6.
Press the <Return> key, then the <Source>, then the <Laser On> (or <LED
on>) softkey.
The Light source provides a graphical display of the two sources and
indicates which one is connected to the output during the scanning process.
The power meter automatically switches to the source wavelength and
displays the resulting power measurement.
Transmission of modulated signals
In order to easily identify a fiber under test the Light source can transmit a
modulated signal that can be identified by the power meter. This ensures that
two users at the extremities of a fiber link are connected to the same fiber. To use
this function:
1.
Press the
SET-UP
direct access key to display the
OTS TEST SETUP
window.
2.
In the Light source configuration menu select the required modulated signal
frequency for the Mode menu option. The following frequencies are
available: 270Hz, 330Hz, 1KHz and 2 KHz.
3.
From the OTS Results window press the <Source> softkey to access the Light
source functions of the OTS.
4.
Press the <Laser On> (or <LED on>) softkey.
The source transmits a modulated signal on the fiber. If the power meter is
connected to the same fiber as the source the selected modulation frequency
is displayed in place of the measured power indication. For example, if a
2KHz modulated signal is detected by the power meter the measured power
is replaced by 2000 Hz.

Memory Functions
The power meter of the OTS module contains a memory which can contain up to
300 measurement results.
The stored results are displayed in a table format with each line corresponding to
a measurement result. The columns for each measurement gives the following
information:
•
the number of the tested fiber
•
the date and time of the measurement
•
the wavelength
•
the power measured in dBm
•
the power mesured in dBr
•
the level of the chosen reference (if unity= dBr)
•
the transmission mode of the measured signal: continued or modulated at a
frequence of 270Hz, 330Hz, 1KHz, or 2KHz.
