OTS Measurements
LEVEL legend on the power meter display and remains displayed until
another value is selected.
•
The <Wavelength> key
1
is used to select the required measurement
wavelength. Each press of the key toggles the available calibrated
wavelengths (850, 1310 1550nm), the currently entered User Select
wavelength and Autolambda automatic wavelength selection.
•
The <Zero Adjust> key
1
is used to adjust the zero setting of the power meter
when a blanking cap is fitted to the power meter optical input.
•
<Real Time>: selects displaying the results in real time (not averaged).
•
The <Thre. On> / <Thre. Of> key toggles the audible threshold alarm on and
off.
•
The <Return> key exits the power meter functions and returns the <Source>
and <Power meter> selection softkeys.
OTS Measurements
Use the following general procedure to make measurements with the OTS
module:
•
Zero the power meter
•
Make a reference measurement with a jumper connected between the light
source output and the power meter input.
•
Replace the jumper with the fiber under test and measure the power. The
power measured corresponds to the insertion loss of the fiber under test.
Adjusting the power meter zero setting
Use the following procedure to adjust the zero setting of the power meter:
1.
Fit the blanking cap to the power meter input to ensure no light reached the
photodiode of the power meter.
Carrying out the zero adjustment without the blanking cap installed will
cause a “Measurement Error” message to be displayed because the
photodiode will have detected too much ambient light.
2.
From the OTS Results window press the <Powermeter> softkey to access the
power meter functions of the OTS.
3.
Press the <Zero Adjust> softkey.
The zero adjustment is made and <Zero Adjust> key is displayed white until
it is finished.
Making a reference measurement
Use the following procedure to make a reference measurement:
1.
Fit an adapter to power meter input in order to connect a jumper.
2.
Connect a jumper between the output of the light source and the input of the
power meter.
3.
Configure the light source and power meter so that both are using the same
wavelength.
