ML-010041 Application Note: Cascade Firing
1
Application Note: Cascade Welding
Scope
This application note is intended for customers using a single AC weld
control to fire multiple weld guns. The door of your welding control will
be labeled "AC" or "MFDC". This not does NOT apply to MFDC
welding controls.
Cascade Welding Information for AC Products
Background
Information
It is possible to operate more than one welding gun with a single weld
control, if the welding guns are operated one at a time in succession.
This is called cascade welding.
This application note gives some guidelines on setting-up and using
cascade welding systems with a single-phase AC welding control.
Parallel Cascade
Method
There are two possible ways to do cascade welding. The first, and
simplest method is to hook up (L2) to three welding transformers, each
attached to a welding gun. Then connect the output (H) of a single AC
welding control in parallel (See Figure 1).

transformers and three welding
guns on a single control.
•
To weld on gun #1: gun 1 must be closed and guns 2 and 3 must be
left open.
