4.2.1 Safety and handling
Observe these warnings when you perform maintenance operations on a 2489 UV/Vis
detector.
4.2.2 Spare parts
Replace only the parts mentioned in this document. For information about spare
parts, see the Waters Quality Parts Locator on the Waters Web site’s Services &
Support page.
4.3 Proper operating procedures
Note:
•
The detector contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not remove the top cover.
•
To maintain optimum performance, close the detector’s front door before
resuming normal operation.
4.3.1 Routine maintenance
The detector requires minimal routine maintenance.
To achieve optimal performance,
•
replace solvent reservoir filters in your HPLC system regularly;
•
filter and degas solvents to prolong column life, reduce pressure fluctuations,
and decrease baseline noise;
Warning:
To prevent injury, always observe Good Laboratory Practices when
you handle solvents, change tubing, or operate the 2489 UV/Vis detector. Know
the physical and chemical properties of the solvents you use. See the Material
Safety Data Sheets for the solvents in use.
Warning:
To avoid electric shock:
• Do not open the detector’s cover. The components within are not
user-serviceable.
• Power-off and unplug the detector before performing any maintenance
operation on the instrument.
Notice:
To avoid damaging electrical parts, never disconnect an electrical
assembly while power is applied to the detector. To completely interrupt power,
set the module’s power switch to “off”, and then unplug the power cord from the
ac wall outlet. Wait 10 seconds after discontinuing power before attempting to
disconnect the assembly.
