2.5.8. Monitoring of the Inhaled Anesthetics Concentration
By special order, the device can be equipped with a breathing gas analysis module with the
function of volatile anesthetics concentration monitoring (hereinafter the gas analysis module).
In this case, the device displays:
o
concentration of
СО

at the inspiration (Fi

(Et
СО

),
o
capnogram,
o
respiratory rate (RR), determined by capnogram,
o
concentration of
О

at the inspiration (Fi

) and at the end of expiration (Et

),
o
concentration of N

О at the inspiration (FiN

О) and at the end of expiration
(EtN

О),
o
concentration of volatile anesthetics (Ax): halothane (Hal), enflurane (Enf), isoflu-
rane (Iso), sevoflurane (Sev), desflurane (Des) at the inspiration (FiAx) and at the
end of expiration (EtAx).

* - the threshold for determining the primary anesthetic is 0.15% (0.4% in the "ISO accuracy" mode).
In addition to the concentration of the above gases, the device displays the calculated MAC pa-
rameter - the minimum alveolar gas concentration. This is the alveolar concentration of the inha-
lation anesthetic, when there is no motor response in 50% of patients to a standard stimulus - a
skin incision. For the calculation, the standard values of 1MAC concentration of anesthetic
agents and nitrous oxide are used (according to EN ISO 21647: 2004) or the values set by the
user in the general parameters menu (see it. 1.3.8).
The MAC value for each gas is calculated as the ratio of the expiratory gas concentration (EtAx)
measured by the device to the 1MAC value set in the menu for that gas. The total MAC value is
determined as the sum of the MAC values for each gas (N
2
O, Ax) displayed on the device
screen (see it. 1.3.17).
