INSTALLATION ORDER
Use the following installation order to install AIS Base Station T214:
•
Provide proper grounding;
•
Install
GNSS
antenna;
•
Install VHF antenna;
•
Install T214 equipment;
•

4.2
GROUNDING
The equipment and cable system should be properly grounded for lightning
protection and static electricity protection.
For all VHF feeders, grounding kits should be installed on the top of and at the
entrance to the building.

GNSS ANTENNA INSTALLATION
4.3.1
General requirements
The GPS satellites are not stationary but circle round the globe in a period of about
12 hours. They can only be received if no building is in the line of sight from the
antenna to the satellite, so the antenna must be installed in a location from which
as much of the sky as possible can be seen. The best reception is given when the
antenna has a free view of 5° angular elevation above horizon. If this is not possible
the antenna should be installed with a largest free view to the equator because
of the satellite courses which are located between latitudes of 55° North and 55°
South. If this is not possible either, problems may occur especially when at least
four satellites have to be found for positioning.
To reduce the interference from other radio systems, the antenna unit is required to be
installed as far from these radio systems as possible, especially from the antenna units
of INMARSAT, GLOBAL STAR and IRIDIUM satellite terminals. This distance should in
any case be not less than 4 m. It should not be within the radar radiation pattern.
Antenna is connected to T214 unit with RG58/U cable using TNC-male connectors.
The length of cable shall be less than 50m.
Screw the rod into the GNSS antenna by turning the rod. Do not turn the GNSS
antenna as this will twist the cable and damage the connection.
