Cleaning the 11.7 eV PID Sensor’s Lamp
Since the life of the 11.7 eV lamp is typically only 3 months, cleaning the lamp is not
normally needed. However, if the sensor is exposed to high-molecular-weight VOCs,
silicones, or amines, the lamp should be cleaned.
See “Cleaning the PID Sensor’s Lamp, 10.0 eV and 10.6 eV Lamps” on page 117 for
instructions to clean the lamp keeping in mind that you are using anhydrous methanol
instead of aluminum oxide.
CAUTION:
The aluminum oxide cleaning kit described on pg.117 is only for use with
the 10.0 eV and 10.6 eV PID sensors’ lamps. DO NOT USE THE
ALUMINUM OXIDE CLEANING KIT TO CLEAN THE 11.7 eV PID
SENSOR’S LAMP!
Cleaning Kit
The 11.7 eV PID sensor cannot be cleaned with the same cleaning kit as the 10.0 eV and
10.6 eV PID sensors!
A special cleaning kit for the 11.7 eV PID sensor is not included with the instrument. See
Table 31 on page 239 for the 11.7 eV lamp cleaning kit ordering information.
The 11.7 eV PID sensor lamp cleaning kit includes the following items:
•
an electrode stack removal tool
•
a small vial of anhydrous methanol (you may purchase your own anhydrous
methanol but do NOT use anything with water in it)
•
10 cotton swabs
•
10 finger cots
When using the anhydrous methanol, try to minimize the vial’s exposure to air by leaving
the cap on as much as possible. Discard the anhydrous methanol 3 months after opening or
after leaving the cap off for an extended period of time.
CAUTION:
Using the anhydrous methanol more than 3 months after opening it or after
the cap has been off for an extended period of time may damage the 11.7 eV
lamp.
