Cleaning the Maxprep™ Liquid Handler
6.1 Weekly Cleaning
It is important to keep the Maxprep™ Liquid Handler clean during regular operation. It is
recommended to perform a full cleaning of the system as part of the Weekly Maintenance
procedure. If samples or reagents have been spilled, it is important to clean the instrument
immediately to avoid damage or contamination of samples.
Follow the instructions below to perform a full cleaning of the Maxprep™ Liquid Handler.
• Do not remove the Maxprep™ Liquid Handler outer panels for cleaning. This will void the
warranty.
• Do not use a spray bottle to soak instrument surfaces with large volumes of liquid.
• Never allow liquids to remain on instrument surfaces for extended periods of time.
• Do not use bleach solutions for cleaning any instrument surfaces.
1. From the ‘Home’ screen, press the
Maintenance
button. Close the instrument door and
select the
Weekly Maintenance
item from the list of maintenance methods.
2. Once the method has started, open the door of the instrument to clean the instrument.
While cleaning the instrument during the Weekly Maintenance method, it is possible to
manually move the gantry of the system left and right to access carriers and tip waste.
3. Remove any Maxwell
®
deck trays, samples and consumables from the Maxprep™ Liquid
Handler.
4. Remove the tip eject bar from the waste position (Figure 44) and clean with a disinfectant
spray such as Steris LpH
®
following the manufacturer’s instructions.
5. Remove the tip waste bin from the instrument (Figure 44). Remove the waste bag and
dispose of any used tips. Clean the tip waste container with disinfectant spray and then
rinse with water. Do not autoclave the tip waste bin.
6. Line the waste bin with a new waste bag. Reorder Maxprep™ Waste Bags, Clear, from
Promega (Cat.# AS9305). Return the waste bin to the system.
Wear gloves
and appropriate
personal protective
equipment. If the
instrument is used
with biohazardous
materials, dispose
of any cleaning
materials used in
accordance with
your institutional
guidelines.
Used labware and
reagents should
be disposed of
appropriately
according to
your institution’s
procedures for
hazardous and
