compliant keyboards and Hard Disk USB devices only.

“Screen-burn” on plasma screens

Be aware of plasma screen image retention or "screen burn" when using
this unit. Always use the remote control "I/0" button to switch off the on-
screen display when not using the menu system to change settings etc.
LCD or conventional CRT TV do not suffer from this problem.

The 640H also has a timed “screen blank” that can be set to blank the
screen after a determined time period.

Backing up

In the unlikely event of a hard-drive failure, some or all of the music
content stored on the 640H's hard-drive may be lost. It is therefore
strongly recommended that all music content is regularly archived to
another storage medium to prevent lengthy re-ripping or transferring of
content in this event. We recommend using a USB or network hard-drive
(including the hard-drive in a computer). Cambridge Audio cannot be
held responsible for any consequential damage caused by hard-drive
failures.

Operating notes

Your 640H has inside it a powerful processing engine that naturally
generates heat.  The outer chassis will therefore be hotter than other hi-
fi components. This is quite normal and will not affect performance or
safety. Always ensure there is ample ventilation around the unit.

There is a small fan to cool the processor inside the 640H. This fan is
designed to run continuously and may be audible. In addition, when the
unit is processing data (playback, ripping etc), including when in
Standby mode, the hard drive may also be heard operating. When the
640H has finished all it’s tasks the hard drive will return to a low power
in-active mode.

Off / Standby

When the 640H is in Standby mode it is in a low power mode but not
actually off. This is so the unit can both serve content over the network
to other units/computers and perform other tasks (e.g. background
compression). To turn the hard drive off, press and hold the Standby/On
button on the front panel or remote for 5 seconds. When leaving the unit
unattended for long periods of time you should switch the unit off fully
with the On/Off switch on the rear panel.
