Appendix: Configuring the PC
11.9 Connecting to a Network
The Maxprep™ PC can connect to local networks through a wired eithernet connection. If you
want to connect the PC to a site network, follow the instructions below.
Note: Consult your site IT department when connecting to the network so that the rules and
regulations regarding network access for your site are followed.
The following is a set of guidelines for your IT personnel or site Administrator.
We do not recommend loading additional programs onto the PC because these may interfere
with the instrument operation.
Some institutions require antivirus software installed on PCs within the institution. If installing an
antivirus program, please ensure it is set to manual, not automatic, update.
Antivirus scanning will slow the performance of the PC and may affect the performance of the
Maxprep™ Liquid Handler while it is processing samples.
Additional recommendations:
• Disable automatic Windows
®
updates and virus scans.
• Disable automatic power off, sleep, or hibernation settings.
• Disable “Fast Startup”. Set the power button to Shut Down not Sleep.
• Disable any other automatically or manually started software that would consume PC
resources during operation.
• Ensure there are no domain policies that would overwrite any of the above settings.
Note: The PC that is provided with Maxprep™ Liquid Handler is already configured for the
settings listed above.
1. Connect an ethernet cable to the available ethernet port on the back of the computer and
an ethernet network connection.
2. The computer should automatically detect the network after the ethernet cable is
connected.
