Recommendations:
1. If you’re shooting in extremely hot conditions, you might
consider lowering this number to protect against
overheating the sensor (which produces more noise and
more hot pixels under some circumstances).
2. If you’re trying to take a specific sequence of frames (say,
6 fps for 3 seconds to produce exactly 18 frames), set the
value of this option to
18
and use
C
H
.
Custom Setting #D6 File Number Sequence
(File number sequence
129
)
You may remember from the section on filenames (see page
<182>) that the D300 has two basic capabilities for naming
files: file numbers are reset to
0001
by a number of actions
(formatting, new card, new folder, etc.), or they aren’t reset
until you hit
9999
. This is where you set that behavior:
On
File numbering picks up after last number
[default]
Off
File numbering always resets to 0001
Reset
Same as
Off
but number immediately reset to
highest file number in the current folder
plus
1.

This function should
not
be in the Custom Settings menus, which have banks! It
should only be in the SETUP menu because it should apply to the camera all the
time. Fortunately, the default is now
On
, so the previous problem of setting the first
bank to
On
but forgetting to do that for all banks is no longer there.
