Installing a 5 1/4-Inch Device — Small Desktop or Desktop
Use the following procedure to install a 5 1/4-inch device in a 5 1/4-inch
accessible device bay.
Note:
A 3 1/2-inch device can also be installed in a
5 1/4-inch accessible device bay. Place the device in a
5 1/4-inch frame adapter and then follow the instructions in
this section.
1.
Follow the preinstallation instructions that come with your device, such as
setting jumpers.
2.
Remove the system unit cover (see “Removing the Small Desktop or
Desktop Cover”).
3.
Remove the front panel.
For a small desktop system see “Removing the Front Panel — Small
Desktop.”
For a desktop system, see “Removing the Front Panel — Desktop.”
4.
From the front of the system, insert the device, connector end first, into the
device bay (see the second figure in “Removing a 5 1/4-Inch Device —
Small Desktop or Desktop”).
Note:
To easily access device connectors for cabling,
do not insert a 5 1/4-inch device all the way into the bay.
5.
Connect the device cables.
