Backplane
The
following
procedures
describe
the
removal
and
replacement
of
the
system
backplane.
Before
performing
the
following
procedures,
read
the
“Safety
Notices”
on
page
xi.
If
you
are
servicing
a
Model
6C3,
it
is
strongly
recommended
that
the
system
drawer
be
removed
from
the
rack.
If
you
are
servicing
a
Model
6E3,
it
is
strongly
recommended
that
the
system
be
placed
on
its
side,
on
a
flat
and
stable
surface.
To
avoid
potential
breakage,
the
system
front
foot
must
not
be
resting
on
the
surface.
Removing
the
System
Backplane
Attention:
Before
you
remove
or
disconnect
any
components,
note
where
they
are
connected
or
installed
in
system.
To
remove
the
system
backplane,
do
the
following:
1.
Shut
down
the
system
as
described
in
“Stopping
the
System”
on
page
282.
2.
Disconnect
the
power
source
from
the
system.
Note:
This
system
may
be
equipped
with
a
second
power
supply.
Before
continuing
with
this
procedure,
ensure
that
the
power
source
to
the
system
has
been
completely
disconnected.
3.
Label
and
disconnect
all
other
cables
located
at
the
rear
of
the
system.
4.
Place
the
system
into
the
service
position
as
described
in
“Placing
the
Model
6C3
into
the
Service
Position”
on
page
284
or
“Placing
the
Model
6E3
into
the
Service
and
Operating
Position”
on
page
286.
5.
Remove
the
service
access
cover
as
described
in
“Removing
the
Model
6C3
Service
Access
Cover”
on
page

or

Service
Access
Cover”
on
page
289.
6.
Before
handling
any
card,
board,
or
memory
DIMM,
be
sure
to
use
your
electrostatic
discharge
strap
to
minimize
static-electric
discharge.

Record
the
slot
number
and
location
of
each
adapter
being
removed.

Remove
the
PCI
adapters
as

Remove
both
power
supplies,
