Disk
Drive
Backplane
and
Filler
The
following
procedures
describe
the
removal
and
replacement
of
the
disk
drive
backplane
and
filler.
Before
performing
the
following
procedures,
read
the
“Safety
Notices”
on
page
xi.
If
you
are
servicing
a
Model
6E3,
it
is
strongly
recommended
that
the
system
be
placed
on
its
side,
on
a
flat
and
stable
surface.
To
avoid
potential
breakage,
the
system
front
foot
must
not
be
resting
on
the
surface.
Removing
the
Disk
Drive
Backplane
or
Filler
To
remove
the
disk
drive
backplane,
do
the
following:
1.
Stop
the
system
as
described
in
“Stopping
the
System”
on
page
282.
2.
Disconnect
the
power
source
from
the
system.
Note:
This
system
may
be
equipped
with
a
second
power
supply.
Before
continuing
with
this
procedure,
ensure
that
the
power
source
to
the
system
has
been
completely
disconnected.
3.
Place
the
system
into
the
service
position
as
described
in
“Placing
the
Model
6C3
into
the
Service
Position”
on
page
284
or
“Placing
the
Model
6E3
into
the
Service
and
Operating
Position”
on
page
286.
4.
Remove
the
service
access
cover
as
described
in
“Removing
the
Model
6C3
Service
Access
Cover”
on
page
288
or
“Removing
the
Model
6E3
Service
Access
Cover”
on
page
289.
5.
Remove
the
fan
tray
assembly
as
described
in
“Removing
the
Fan
Tray
Assembly”
on
page
321.
6.
Before
handling
any
card,
board,
or
DIMM,
be
sure
to
use
your
electrostatic
discharge
strap
to
minimize
static-electric
discharge.
Refer
to
“Handling
Static-Sensitive
Devices”
on
page
280.
7.
If
you
are
removing
the
disk
drive
backplane
behind
disk
drive
slots
1,
2,
3,
and
4,
go
to
the
next
step.
If
you
are
removing
the
disk
drive
backplane
or
filler
behind
disk
drive
slots
5,
6,
7,
and
8,
do
the
following:
a.
Record
the
slot
number
and
location
of
each
PCI
adapter.
b.
Remove
and
label
the
PCI
adapter
cables.
c.
Remove
the
PCI
adapters
as
described
in
“Removing
a
Non-Hot-Pluggable
PCI
Adapter”
on
page
294.
d.
Remove
the
PCI
adapter
dividers.
8.
Disconnect
the
disk
drives
by
placing
the
disk
drive
handle
into
the
open
position
(perpendicular
to
the
drive)
and
pulling
the
hot-swap
disk
drive
forward
in,
but
not
out
of
the
bay.
Pull
the
disk
drive
fillers
forward
in
the
bay.
9.
Squeeze
the
blue
latch
tabs
on
the
top
edge
of
the
the
disk
drive
backplane
or
disk
drive
backplane
filler
and
pull
it
upwards
to
free
it
from
the
connector.
Tip
the
disk
drive
backplane
or
filler
away
from
the
chassis
hooks
on
the
wall
of
the
chassis,
and
lift
it
out
of
the
system.
