Working with adapters
This section provides information and instructions for installing and removing
adapters.
Adapters and expansion slots
Your computer system board has three expansion slots that support the
peripheral component interconnect (PCI) architecture. Depending on your
model, some of the expansion slots might already have adapters installed.
There is also one advanced graphics port (AGP) expansion slot, which is
occupied by the video adapter. You can install PCI adapters in any of the
available PCI expansion slots as long as the adapter does not exceed 228
mm (9 inches) in length.
Most PCI adapters do not require any configuration before installation.
However, always check the documentation provided with the adapter to see
if any preparation has to be done to the adapter before it is installed. After
the adapter is installed, it is recognized by the system and usually configured
