Do not scratch or mark the disc.
Do not place or store the disc in direct sunlight.
Do not use benzene, thinners, or other cleaners to clean the disc.
Do not drop or bend the disc.
Do not insert damaged discs into the drive. Warped, scratched, or dirty
discs can damage a drive.
Inserting and Removing a CD or DVD
To insert a CD or DVD:
1. With the computer on, press the Eject/Load button on the drive. The
tray slides out of the drive. (Do not manually force the tray open.)
2. Place the CD in the tray with the label facing up. If you are inserting a
DVD, place the disc with the "side 1" label facing up to play side1.
3. Close the tray by pressing the Eject/Load button or by gently pushing
the tray forward. When the tray is closed, the indicator light on the front
of the drive will activate to indicate that the drive is in use.
To remove a CD or DVD:
1. With the computer on, press the Eject/Load button. When the tray
slides out, carefully remove the disc.
2. Close the tray by pressing the Eject/Load button or by gently pushing
the tray forward.
Note: If you are using a CD-ROM drive and the tray does not slide out of
the drive when you press the Eject/Load button, insert a straightened
paper clip into the emergency-eject hole located on the front of the
CD-ROM drive.
The computer is preset to automatically start an audio CD,
Auto-Play
enabled CD, or DVD when you insert the disc into the drive. For more
information, see “Installing and using software with the AutoPlay feature” on
page 26
Recording a CD
If your computer has a CD-RW drive, you will not be able to write CDs until
you install the following software from the
Software Selections CD:
Adaptec DirectCD
Adaptec Easy CD Creator
Adaptec UDF Reader
Each of these programs performs a unique function. Using these programs,
you can create CDs that can be read by almost any CD-R, CD-RW,
