Modem connections vary by country and region. If a telephone
splitter is provided, use the splitter to attach the modem cable and
telephone cable to the telephone wall connector. If a converter is
provided, use the converter to attach the modem cable to the
telephone wall connector.
Connector
Description
MIDI/Joystick connector
Use this connector to attach a joystick, gamepad, or a
Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) device such
as a MIDI keyboard.
Serial connectors
Use either of these connectors to attach an external
modem, serial printer, or other device that uses a 9-pin
serial connector. The serial connector marked 1 is the
primary serial connector; the serial connector marked 2
is the alternate serial connector.
Keyboard connector
Use this connector to attach a keyboard that uses a
standard keyboard connector.
Mouse connector
Use this connector to attach a mouse, trackball, or
other pointing device that uses a standard mouse
connector.
USB connectors
Use either of these connectors to attach a device that
requires a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection, such
as a USB scanner or USB printer. If you have more
than two USB devices, you can purchase a USB hub,
which you can use to connect additional USB devices.
The USB connector marked 1 is the primary USB
connector; the USB connector marked 2 is the
alternate USB connector.
Parallel connector
Use this connector to attach a parallel printer, parallel
scanner, or any other device that requires a 25-pin
parallel connection.
Audio line-out connector
Use this connector to send audio signals from the
computer to external devices, such as powered stereo
speakers (speakers with built-in amplifiers),
headphones, multimedia keyboards, or the Audio
line-in connector on a stereo system or other external
recording device.
Note: The internal speaker in your computer is
disabled when external speakers are connected
to the Audio line-out connector on your
computer.
