Once the computer system, drive, or monitor has entered the standby state,
any use of the keyboard or mouse, or an incoming modem ring, brings the
computer system, monitor, or hard disk out of the standby mode.
Using security features
To deter unauthorized use of your computer, you can lock the cover and
keyboard.
Locking the cover
Your computer comes with a built-in padlock loop located on the back of the
computer. It is positioned at the top-right corner. You can use this loop to
lock the cover to your computer with a padlock.
Locking the keyboard
You can set a power-on password through the Configuration/Setup Utility
program and use the security features built into the Windows operating
system. If you decide to use passwords, do not forget them.
If you set a power-on password, the keyboard is locked when you turn on
the computer. You must type the correct password before the keyboard will
unlock. You set a power-on password through the Configuration/Setup
Utility program (see Chapter 4, “Using the Configuration/Setup Utility
program” on page 27).
You also can use the password and screen-saver features built into the
Windows operating system to assign a password that locks the keyboard
and mouse after a predefined period of inactivity. To use these features, do
the following:
1. From the Windows desktop, click Start.
2. Select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Display, and then click Screen Saver.
4. Select a screen saver.
5. In the Wait field, select the number minutes of inactivity that is to pass
before the screen saver becomes active.
6. Click the Password protected check box so that the check mark is
visible, and then click Change.
7. Type your password, then confirm your password by typing it in the
Confirm new password field.
8. Click OK.
