4. Wait 15 seconds.
5. Turn on your monitor and computer.
6. When you see the IBM Product Recovery Program Main Menu, select
Full Recovery and follow the instructions on the screen.
7. Remove the disc before you restart your computer at the end of the
recovery.
8. After the Aptiva software has been reinstalled, copy your personal
configuration and data files back into their original directories on the
hard disk.
If the
Product Recovery and Diagnostics CD does not start automatically,
use the Configuration/Setup Utility program to verify that the startup
sequence has a CD drive listed before the hard disk. From the factory, the
startup sequence is set as follows: Diskette drive is the first startup device,
CD drive is the second startup device, and hard disk is the third startup
device. For more information about selecting startup devices, see
Chapter 4, “Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program” on page 27.
Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure
If power to your computer is interrupted while POST/BIOS is being updated
(flash update), your computer might not restart correctly. If this happens,
perform the following procedure to recover:
1. Turn off the computer and any attached devices, such as printers,
monitors, and external drives.
2. Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets and remove the cover.
See “Removing the cover” on page 59.
3. Refer to “Identifying parts on the system board” on page 65 to locate
the small rocker-switch block.
4. Remove any adapters that impede access to the switch block. For
more information about adapters, see “Working with adapters” on
page 68.
5. Move switch 2 on the small rocker-switch block from the OFF position to
the ON position. It might be helpful to use a ballpoint pen to change the
position of the switch.
6. Replace any adapters that were removed, and replace the cover. See
“Replacing the cover and connecting the cables” on page 82.
7. Reconnect the power cords for the computer and monitor to electrical
outlets.
8. Insert the POST/BIOS update (flash) diskette into drive A and turn on
the monitor and computer. The update program starts automatically.
